We all know that humans dream, and just like us, dogs also dream.

Dogs go through three stages of sleep: First is the  NREM, non-rapid eye movement; Second REM, rapid eye movement; and lastly SWS, short-wave sleep.

It is in the SWS stage where dogs breathe heavily while they are sleeping. While during REM stage dogs dream and act on their dreams by twitching or moving their paws as if they were chasing something.
